Bars provide stools or chairs for the patrons along tables or raised counters. Some bars have entertainment on a stage, such as a live band, comedians, go-go dancers, a floor show or strippers (see strip club). Bars that are part of hotels are sometimes called long bars or hotel lounges. The term “bar” is derived from the specialized counter on which drinks are served and is a synecdoche applied to the whole of the drinking establishment. The “back bar” or “gantry” is a set of shelves of glasses and bottles behind that counter. In some bars, the gantry is elaborately decorated with woodwork, etched glass, mirrors, and lights. When food is served elsewhere in the establishment, it may also be ordered and eaten at the bar. Kinds of bars There are many types of bars, which can be categorized according to the types of entertainment provided at the bar and by their clientèle. Bars categorized by the type of entertainment or activities offered at the bar include: Topless bars, where topless female employees serve drinks or dance; sports bars, where sports fans watch games on large-screen televisions; salsa bars, where patrons dance to latin salsa music; and dance bars. which have a modest-sized dance floor where patrons dance to recorded music. However, if a dance bar has a large dance floor and hires well-known professional DJs, it is usually considered to be nightclub or discothèque. Bars categorized by the clientele who come to the bar include: biker bars, which are bars frequented by motorcycle enthusiasts, bikerbars, and in some regions, motorcycle gang members; gay bars, where gay men or women dance and socialize; cop bars, where off-duty law enforcement agents gather; and singles bars where (mostly) unmarried people of both genders can socialize and meet. A bar owners and managers typically chose establishment names, decor, drink menus, lighting and other elements they can control so as to attract a certain clientele. However, bar operators have only limited influence over who patronizes their establishments and a bar envisioned for one demographic can become popular with another. For example, a gay bar with a dance floor might attract an increasingly-straight clientele over time and vice versa. As well, a blues club may become a de facto “biker bar” if its main clients are biker gang members. There are also retro bars and lounge bars.

It Takes Two to Tango
It’s often the intangibles that make a restaurant successful, and while time will be the ultimate arbiter of success, Pacharan has got a lot going for it — superb location, artsy interior design, relaxed ambience, a chef from Barcelona. The place just feels hip.
Spanish tapas and wine restaurant, with views of the Mekong and Royal Palace. 389 E1 Sisowath Quay (entrance on Street 184), Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
If the raucous sneak-preview party was an accurate indicator, than a new hot spot appears ready to hit the Phnom Penh culinary scene.
Offering a delectable array of regional treats, an exhaustive roster of fine wine, and all the frantic flurry of a Flamenco guitar, Pacharan — the first authentic Spanish restaurant in the Kingdom of Cambodia — opened its doors February 25 and provided patrons a peek at some full-blown sketches of Spain.
Well-heeled businessmen and over-served journalists rubbed shoulders with diplomats and local restaurateurs at a vibrant fete presided over coolly by General Manager Andres Arias, who was born in Brazil and raised in Barcelona.
“This is a real Spanish atmosphere,” said Arias. “In Spain people go to bars and stand up drinking and chatting with their friends. It’s a fun, informal way to have active social interaction. There’s no schedule. Your night is always a work in progress.”

Hotel June 25, 2007
Phnom Penh is still very much in its infancy when it comes to tourism development,
and this even includes the way certain properties within the city are run. On the luxury end of the market there is not really a great deal of choice of hotels but the choice is more than enough to satisfy every possible taste, and please the most frequent of travellers. What we discovered on our way around the hotels is that one should not carry pre-conceived ideas as to what is the best, which is the most luxurious etc as Phnom Penh is full of small surprises and our choice for the most luxurious hotel would surprise many. There are a couple of things you should know about Phnom Penh. One is that the hotels are not cheap, hoteliers will tell you that this is because all materials have to be imported. Connecting to the internet is also a chore and an expensive one. Please read our separate guide to Connect to the Internet in Phnom Penh. The other is that there seems to be no standard plug in any of the hotels, each of the hotels we visited had a different type of plug, whether it be a Thai standard, French standard or English standard so we do suggest that you take a couple or one multi adapter along with you.
When choosing a hotel within Phnom Penh, the location is not such a major concern as traffic while it can be bad during the rush hours can be easily avoided and is no worse than any other major city. Location in terms of attractions close by, should be a major consideration as this will allow you to enjoy a little of Phnom Penh’s nightlife and restaurants without being restricted to a hotel or having to take a taxi.
The river area is perhaps the finest location in that regard, as the quaint shop houses that run along the river offer everything from fine dining to everyday French or Khmer cuisine, in an unusual almost Mediterranean like setting with outdoor cafes and such. Being close to the river also allows you the opportunity to see first hand just how enormous the Mekong is.
Please note that some hotels accept limited types of credit card, we strongly suggest you check directly with the hotel prior to departure whether they accept the card you plan to pay with.
Casino June 25, 2007
Welcom every body!
A casino is a facility that accommodates certain types of gambling activities. Casinos are often placed near or combined with hotels, restaurants, retail shopping, cruise ships and other vacation attractions. Some casinos are known for hosting live entertainment events, such as concerts and sporting events. Worldwide there are about four thousand seven hundred and fifty six casinos.
Casinos focus greatly on security. Large amounts of currency move through a casino, tempting people to cheat the system. Security today consists of cameras located throughout the property operated by highly trained individuals who attempt to locate cheating and stealing by both players and employees.
Modern casino security is usually divided between a physical security force, which patrols the casino floor and responds to calls for assistance and reports of criminal and/or suspicious activities, and a specialized surveillance department, that operates the casino’s closed circuit television (CCTV) system in an effort to detect any misconduct by both guests and employees alike. Both of these specialized casino security departments work very closely with each other to ensure the safety of both guests and the casino’s assets.
When it opened in 1989, The Mirage was the first casino to use security cameras full time on all table games.
